Kundli Pass
Kundli Pass (also spelled Kundali Pass) is a high-altitude mountain pass in the Dhauladhar range of Himachal Pradesh (HP), India, at about 4,550 meters (14,928 ft).
It is an offbeat and challenging trek that connects the Kangra Valley (near Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj) with the Chamba Valley (towards Bharmour). Locals and shepherds traditionally use it, especially in autumn, but it remains relatively untouched by mass tourism.
Key Highlights:
- Location: Dhauladhar Himalayas, Himachal Pradesh. It sits between peaks like Moon Peak (4,650m) and Toral Pass (4,375m), facing the Kangra valley on the north side.
- Difficulty: Hard to very difficult — steep climbs, high altitude, remote terrain, and unpredictable weather. Suitable only for experienced trekkers with proper acclimatization.
- Typical Trek Route (5–6 days one way):
- Starts from Khaniyara (near Dharamsala) or sometimes McLeod Ganj/Sidhbari side.
- Passes through villages/gaddis like Thatharna, Khadota, Bakluddu, then ascends to the pass.
- Descent towards Kuvarasi/Lamu or Chamba side.
- Total distance varies, but it’s a crossover trek with alpine meadows, rocky sections, and shepherd trails.
- Best Time: Late May to early October (monsoon can be risky; post-monsoon September–October often preferred for clearer views and fewer landslides).
- Why Visit?: Offers raw Himalayan wilderness, panoramic views of Dhauladhar peaks, possible sightings of wildlife, and a true sense of adventure away from crowded routes like Indrahar Pass.
Here’s a detailed 5-day Kundli Pass Trek itinerary (the most common and practical crossover version). It starts from the Kangra side (near McLeod Ganj/Dharamsala) and ends on the Chamba side (towards Bharmour/Kwarsi). This is an offbeat, challenging high-altitude trek in the Dhauladhar range, suitable only for experienced trekkers with good fitness and prior high-altitude exposure.
